South African Cactus Pear Growers’ Association (SACPGA)

As our name says, we represent South Africa’s cactus pear growers; the farmers who make every effort to plant and harvest only the best South African cactus pears. We were established in 1978 with the common goal of serving, protecting and promoting the interests of the South African cactus pear industry both here at home and abroad. We also help our farmers on various levels, by providing practical technical, marketing and legislative support.

As SACPGA we are committed to quality, sustainability and good agricultural practices.

We support producers across South Africa to perform optimally by:

• Continuously striving towards free market principles
• Managing user-orientated research
• Providing all role players with strategic industry information
• Ensuring all consumers have continuous access to quality products
• Promoting the sale and consumption of cactus pears
• Developing and expanding the local and foreign cactus pear markets
• Co-ordinating and disseminating relevant information, and lobbying and liaising with government for the good of our growers
• Creating a supportive structure that encourages development and growth within the industry.

Ultimately, we aim to maximise grower returns by enhancing the premium brand positioning of South African cactus pears and improving grower sustainability.
